Performance-based Analysis And Design Software

Performance-based analysis and design software

Outbreaking the traditional approaches in structural design makes the building more powerful and sustainable in difficult times. Through performance-based analysis (PBA), we can focus on the end product and go beyond codes/guidelines associated with the building infrastructure. It is a revolutionary software that adds layers of security, robustness, and superiority to buildings.

You cannot consider the performance-based design approach to be an immediate substitute for designing buildings to traditional codes. Rather, it can count as an opportunity to enhance the design.

Usually, performance-based analysis and design software enable designers to clarify the actual performance based on client discussion, determine the target performance based on the agreement, and confirm that the results of that particular design satisfy the target.

Performance-Based Design Process

In a performance-based design process, you can evaluate how a building performs under a variety of conditions related to potential hazard events. As an advantage of the process, you can quantify the frequency and magnitude of potential events and understand the actual response of the building. Consequently, you will know the functionality of buildings.

  •  The process starts by selecting the design criteria linked to one or more performance objectives. Each performance objective states the acceptable risks of incurring different levels of damage and consequential losses.
  •  Once everything is calculated, engineers develop the preliminary design to present the idea and the rough picture of the building.
  •  A deep analysis calculates the potential hazards affecting the building and portability of their occurrence during a specific timeline.

Furthermore, the performance analysis of a building examines its design into four different levels that include mild impact, moderate impact, high impact, and severe impact.

Perform 3D: Performance-Based Design of 3D Structures

Perform3D is a nonlinear analysis and design product designed to focus on displacement- based and capacity design of buildings. Go through the following key segments to get an overview of the software.

Modeling

The nonlinear features of the product include the nonlinear components of the building such as shear walls, frame hinges, dampers, seismic isolators, and braces.

Analysis

Through Perform3D analysis, you can examine several components to project performance- based design for nonlinear pushover and dynamic earthquake. The Perform3D analysis engine is available in 64-bit and can run up to 8 analyses in parallel.

Performance Assessment

The product has different tools to measure the response of the model and assess the behaviour of the structure such as strain gauge elements. It also projects information on deformation and strength capacity on both elastic and inelastic components. It has the limit state feature that is used to aggregate response data into demand-over- capacity ratios to simplify the performance assessment.

Import & Export

You can export Perform3D models from SAP2000 or ETABS and consider them as a starting point for your Perform3D model.

Once your design is developed based on a selected level of performance, you need to perform a series of simulations in order to examine the building's response to landing and estimate the probable performance of the building under various design scenario events.

When the simulated performance meets or exceeds the performance objectives, you may consider the design completed otherwise you need to revise the design. Sometimes, it becomes impossible to meet the stated performance objectives at a reasonable price.

So, consider everything before buying or starting working on the performance-based analysis and design software. Make sure to understand the proper of the software.
